About Saran Nair
Born and brought up in Trivandrum, the capital city of the God’s own country, a land of culture and tradition. Photography has always been my passion and capturing the rich culture of Kerala is my hobby. I believe that the blessings of the Almighty and unrelenting support of friends and family has made me the person I am. I take pictures for many reasons; ranging from sentimental motivations to eminently practical concerns. I feel that looking at pictures puts us in touch with the past and allows us to appreciate artistry. A professional photographer, or an experienced amateur, takes the time to study his or her subject, lighting, the angle of the shot and composition are all evaluated. Much in the same way I consider taking photos as an art form that often produces evocative and engaging photos. I don’t seek to focus on portraits, landscapes or wildlife, but to make the practice of taking photos into a refined art because I feel that photography is an expansive art form that includes more than just portraiture, landscape or Fashion photography. I observe that a framed photo can be just as artful as a painting or sculpture.
Humans are a visual species, and how something looks, strongly affects our perception of its value. Therefore, I put a lot of effort to polish my photographs with a well-conceived presentation. Although my frame of work ranges from a number of cultural art forms like the ‘Kathakali’, the ‘Bharathnatyam’and the 'Ottanthullal' .I have also tried to experiment on taking pictures of clothing and accessories. Some of them were published in magazines and advertisements.
I aspire to bring new meaning into my photography by telling stories through the frames I capture. I believe that photographs can create intense emotional responses. I plan to use this power to create social awareness and political photo essays, centered around injustice or suffering. Public response to socially conscious photo essays and outcry over great images often lead to positive social changes.
